The Third Muse Erato

In the Orphic hymn to the Muses, Erato, the muse of lyric poetry, is described as the fair one who enchants the sight. Since the Renaissance, she is often portrayed with a wreath of myrtle and roses, holding a lyre, or a small kithara, a musical instrument that she is said to have created.

Artist Simon Vouet's representation shows two turtle-doves eating seeds at her feet, others have her holding a golden arrow, reminding one of "eros" -- the feeling that Erato inspires in her unwitting yet all-too-willing preys.

Present backdrop. The third muse merrily resides in a sanctuary of butterflies, birds, and wise, ancient trees. She writes songs atop a mushroom called "Sammy" and is neighbor to the fire flies of a vacant lot right next to hers. Erato is the first and only lady of her turf, consort to the Monarch of music.

She thinks in rhymes half the time and spends her sometimes in daft writing spells. Her current avocation involves taking photographs of the simple and the intricate, the results of which are unveiled in the FacadErato.

Welcome, then, to one in a series of "happy endings" oeuvres by Erato, the muse behind Cupid's countless victims.
